The Medical Superintendent at the Goaso Municipal Hospital in the Ahafo Region, Dr. James Ankomah, has expressed concern over the hospital’s lack of a modern and efficient power plant or generator to support its services.

He made the remarks to Adom News during a visit by the Deputy Minister of Health. Dr. Ankomah explained that as a referral centre, the hospital struggles to function properly during power outages and periods of low voltage because the existing generator is outdated and not functioning adequately.

Currently, the hospital incurs high maintenance costs for the generator, ranging from 10,000 to 25,000 cedis, due to its poor condition. As a result, the hospital has appealed to the government and the Ministry of Health for support in acquiring a brand-new generator.

Additionally, Dr. Ankomah noted that the hospital buildings are old and uninviting. He urged the government to provide new, standard facilities and to pave the internal roads, which he described as a major challenge.

He also highlighted the lack of vehicles and accommodation for staff, which hampers effective service delivery. Many healthcare workers assigned to the hospital reportedly decline postings due to inadequate housing and high rent costs in Goaso.

While the hospital and the community have initiated the construction of staff accommodation, the project has been suspended due to lack of funds. Dr. Ankomah appealed to the government to support the completion of the project to ease accommodation challenges faced by staff.
