The District Chief Executive for Adansi Akrofuom, Gariba Mustapha Mohammed, has commissioned a three-unit Junior High School (JHS) block at Botwe and two Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds at Yaadome and Mprelekyere in the Ashanti Region.

The projects are expected to improve access to quality education and healthcare delivery across the beneficiary communities within the Adansi Akrofuom District.

Speaking to Adom News, Mr. Mohammed said the commissioning forms part of efforts to complete stalled projects and deliver essential infrastructure to communities.

He noted that although the projects were initiated in 2016, they were abandoned after a change in government but have now been completed and made operational.

He added that the move aligns with directives from the President to ensure that all ongoing projects are completed and put to use to benefit citizens.

Meanwhile, the Acting District Director of Education, Charles Clifford Baah, highlighted challenges facing education in the area despite the new infrastructure. He disclosed that the Botwe JHS previously lacked a proper classroom, affecting both teaching and learning.

However, he raised concerns that illegal mining activities, popularly known as galamsey, continue to draw school-age children away from the classroom. According to him, many children in the community are opting for mining activities instead of pursuing education, which could affect enrollment even with the availability of the new school block.

He therefore called for collective efforts to address the situation and encourage children to return to school.

The commissioning of the projects marks a significant step toward improving social services in the district, although concerns remain over sustaining school attendance in mining-affected communities.
