The Acting Rent Commissioner, Fredrick Opoku, has admitted that his earlier communication on the rent card policy may have sounded threatening.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, he clarified that there was no intention to force landlords to comply with the directive.
“Maybe I must admit, my tone may have sounded threatening, but I never meant to enforce anything on the people,” he stated.
His comments come after public concerns that landlords would be compelled to obtain the rent card by April 1.
However, he explained that the policy will be implemented through a gradual process of education and engagement, rather than enforcement.
According to him, authorities will focus on sensitising landlords on the importance of the rent card, adding that once they understand its benefits, they will willingly comply.
He further assured that no enforcement action will be taken against landlords who fail to obtain the card by the stated date, stressing that efforts will continue beyond April 1 to educate stakeholders and clear any misconceptions surrounding the policy.
