Some staff of the Drivers and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) are expected to travel abroad in the coming months to facilitate the registration and renewal of licences for Ghanaian drivers living in the diaspora.

DVLA Chief Executive, Julius Neequaye Kotey, disclosed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has approved the necessary processes for selected staff to be stationed in five countries across Europe and North America to provide the services.

Speaking at the commissioning of a new DVLA office at Bantama in Kumasi, he announced that the staff will be deployed to the United States, Canada, Netherlands, United Kingdom and Germany.

He explained that the personnel will be stationed in these countries to provide driver and vehicle licensing services to Ghanaians who would otherwise have to travel home to renew or register their licences.

“Some of you, the DVLA staff, will be travelling overseas to provide services in five countries. We have obtained approval from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for them to travel and do this for Ghanaians living abroad. They don’t need to come down to renew their one-year licence which has expired. We will provide all licensing services for them,” he stated.

Mr. Kotey further advised staff not to feel discouraged when transferred to other offices and centres across the country.

He clarified that such transfers are not punitive but are aimed at improving service delivery in communities where their expertise is required.

“Transfer is not punishment. It simply means your services are needed elsewhere for the efficient and effective running of that office. More transfers will certainly come. When you receive your letter, check the date, pack your things and report,” he said.
