The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has launched a major infrastructure upgrade project to improve electricity quality and reliability in Adenta and its neighbouring communities.
The initiative involves doubling the capacity of the Adenta Primary Substation from 40MVA to 80MVA to address frequent power interruptions caused by increasing demand. As part of the upgrade, ECG is installing two new 30/39MVA transformers to replace the existing 20/26MVA units currently in operation.
Speaking during a media inspection of the project site, Ing. Emmanuel Addo, Acting General Manager of Accra Subtransmission, explained that the project will significantly enhance power stability in Adenta and its environs while strengthening the network to meet future electricity demand.
“The Adenta enclave is currently supported by three 20/26MVA transformers. This project will replace two of them with 30/39MVA transformers, improving capacity to accommodate growing demand,” he said.

The upgrade, which began on Sunday, February 22, 2026, is being executed in two phases. Ing. Addo disclosed that around 45 percent of the work has already been completed, with the first phase scheduled for completion on Friday, February 27. The timeline for the second phase will be determined after commissioning the first.
Ing. Bismark Otoo, Regional General Manager for Accra East, noted that frequent outages in Adenta, Amrahia, Oyarifa, Danfa, parts of Madina, Teiman, and other surrounding communities are due to the rising load demand surpassing the capacity of the existing transformers. He emphasized that the upgrade is critical not only to resolve current challenges but also to meet future electricity needs.
Ongoing similar projects across the Accra East Region demonstrate ECG’s commitment to enhancing supply reliability and improving customer satisfaction.
The company also cautioned the public against using private electricians during outages, warning that illegal connections, substandard fuses, and unauthorized phase transfers can overload and damage transformers.
Customers experiencing power interruptions are advised to contact ECG via its Contact Centre on 0302 611 611, visit the nearest district office, use the ECG PowerApp, or reach out through social media handles @ECGghOfficial on Facebook, X, and Instagram for prompt assistance.
ECG reaffirmed its dedication to providing reliable electricity and called for customer cooperation as it strengthens the power supply network in the region.
