President John Dramani Mahama paid a courtesy visit to the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) on Saturday, February 21, 2026, following the monarch’s recent road accident.
Accompanied by senior officials, the President spent time with the Greater Accra overlord to personally check on his condition and recovery. Footage of the visit, widely shared on social media, reflects the longstanding relationship between the presidency and the Ga Stool.
Shortly after the visit, medical staff at UGMC discharged the Ga Mantse, who has since returned to his private residence to continue recuperating.
The accident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at Pai-Katanga in the Oti Region. The Ga Mantse was travelling back to Accra from Tamale after spending several days in the Northern Region at the invitation of the Ya Naa. His visit to the Gbewaa Palace was described as more than ceremonial, forming part of efforts to “deepen unity and strengthen bonds of mutual respect” between the Ga State and the Dagbon Kingdom.
Reports indicate that the King did not sustain any serious injuries. Officers from the Ghana Police Service responded promptly at the scene, ensuring his safe evacuation and onward journey to Accra for medical assessment.
In a statement, Ambassador (Sir) S.J.K. Parker-Allotey, Chief of Protocol and Communications at the Office of the Ga Mantse, confirmed that the monarch remained stable.
“By the grace of God, there were no casualties, and with police assistance and support from his aides, all those on board were successfully evacuated to Accra, where they underwent medical checks and were discharged in very stable condition,” the statement said.
The palace further assured the public that the Ga Mantse’s recovery is progressing smoothly.
