The Conference of Heads of Basic Schools (COHBS) in the Ahafo Region has expressed dissatisfaction with the West African Examination Council (WAEC) over its handling of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), particularly citing a lack of engagement with key stakeholders.

Speaking to Adom News at Goaso, COHBS Chairman Edwin Sarpong Boakye criticised WAEC for repeatedly changing the examination schedule without explanation.

He noted that the BECE was previously held in June, then moved to July, and now slated for May, which he said is inappropriate given the absence of proper consultation with stakeholders.

Mr Boakye also raised concerns about WAEC’s new grading system, which has not been adequately explained to COHBS or Ghana Education Service (GES) directors, making it difficult for schools to fully understand.

He further questioned the examination duration, pointing out that students are required to complete 10 subjects in just five days.

According to him, having pupils sit for two papers in a single day is unreasonable, and he urged WAEC to reconsider and allow candidates to write one subject per day.
