Ghana’s Deputy Minister for Education, Dr Clement Abass Apaak, has held a bilateral meeting with a delegation from Riphah International University to discuss a proposal to establish a branch campus in Ghana.

The engagement, which brought together officials from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, the Ministry of Education, the Pakistan High Commission, and representatives of the visiting university, forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen educational cooperation between Ghana and Pakistan.

Welcoming the delegation on behalf of the Minister for Education and the Government of Ghana, Dr Apaak described the visit as a significant step toward deepening the longstanding bilateral ties between the two countries.

He noted that higher education remains central to Ghana’s national development agenda, particularly as the country pursues reforms aimed at expanding access and improving quality in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) as well as health sciences education.

According to the Deputy Minister, Ghana’s transformation drive prioritises strengthening research and innovation capacity, enhancing collaboration between industry and academia, and promoting the internationalisation of local universities.

Dr Apaak also emphasised the Ministry’s openness to structured cooperation through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to guide the proposed partnership and ensure clear, measurable outcomes.

For his part, Chancellor of Riphah International University, Hassan M. Khan, presented an overview of the institution’s academic profile and global outlook.

He highlighted its strong focus on medical and health sciences education, its network of teaching hospitals, and its expanding international partnerships.

He added that beyond academic excellence, the university places emphasis on nurturing students’ moral and ethical development through structured institutional programmes.

At the close of the meeting, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission was tasked to work closely with the university and other stakeholders to further evaluate and advance the proposal in line with Ghana’s regulatory framework.

The Ministry of Education reaffirmed its commitment to facilitating strategic and sustainable partnerships that align with Ghana’s national development priorities.
