A major intelligence-led operation by the Ghana Police Service has led to the interception of a cargo truck carrying 1,482 compressed parcels of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs, with two suspects arrested after one allegedly attempted to bribe officers with GH¢80,000.

The interception occurred on February 15, 2026, at Bodada, following days of surveillance targeting suspected drug trafficking activities.

Police stopped a Benz cargo truck with registration number GS 3831-09, driven by Amrado Justice Nelson, 50, with Onaneye Yussif, 25, as an occupant.

Although the vehicle initially appeared empty, a thorough search uncovered specially modified sealed compartments hidden beneath the cargo floor. Inside the concealed compartments, officers discovered 1,482 compressed parcels of substances suspected to be Indian hemp, suggesting a well-coordinated attempt to transport the drugs undetected.

During the operation, suspect Amrado Justice Nelson allegedly offered GH¢80,000 to the officers in an attempt to secure their release and avoid arrest. The officers rejected the bribe and proceeded to detain both suspects.

The suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while the truck and seized substances have been impounded as evidence.

Police stated that the operation highlights the evolving tactics used by drug traffickers, including the modification of vehicles to conceal illegal cargo, and reaffirmed their commitment to dismantling such networks.

Authorities have urged the public to continue supporting law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities as efforts intensify to curb drug trafficking across the country.
