Asante Kotoko have confirmed the resignation of head coach Karim Zito, bringing an abrupt end to his tenure at the club after 11 months in charge.
The decision follows the Porcupine Warriors’ exit from the MTN FA Cup after a 4-2 defeat to Aduana FC in the Round of 16 at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.
Zito’s position had been under growing scrutiny even before the cup elimination, with Kotoko struggling for consistency in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League. The club currently sit fifth on the table with 35 points from 21 matches.
In an official statement, the club announced: “Abdul Karim Zito Kabutey has resigned from his role as the head coach of Asante Kotoko Sporting Club with immediate effect. Management has accepted the resignation, expressed its appreciation to the coach for his services and wished him the best for the future.
“The new technical direction of the club will be communicated in due course.”
Zito was appointed interim head coach in April 2025 following the departure of Prosper Narteh Ogum. After leading Kotoko to FA Cup glory, the former Dreams FC manager was handed the role on a permanent basis with a two-year contract.
Focus now turns to Kotoko’s high-profile Super Clash against Hearts of Oak on Sunday, February 14, at the Baba Yara Stadium, as the club seeks stability amid changes on the technical bench.
