The Electoral Commission (EC) has scheduled a meeting of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) as part of preparations for the upcoming Ayawaso East by-election on March 3, 2026.
In a notice dated February 6, 2026, addressed to the General Secretaries of all registered political parties, the Commission announced that the engagement will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at its corporate headquarters in Accra.
According to the EC, the meeting will focus solely on arrangements and procedures for conducting the Ayawaso East by-election. Political parties have been directed to send no more than two representatives each to the session.
The invitation was signed by Dr. Bossman Eric Asare, Deputy Chairperson in charge of Corporate Services, on behalf of the Chairperson of the Commission.
The Ayawaso East by-election was necessitated by the death of the sitting MP, Mahama Naser Toure, on January 4, 2026, following a short illness.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) officially named Baba Ali as its parliamentary candidate on January 27, following broad consultations and a review of who could effectively mobilize support within a limited campaign period.
In a parliamentary primary on Saturday, February 7, 2026, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) elected Ghana’s High Commissioner, Baba Jamal, as its candidate. However, there have been calls for the election to be annulled amidst an ongoing probe into alleged vote buying and inducement that contributed to his victory.
