Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has explained the reasoning behind the inclusion of Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren in the Black Stars’ technical team.

On Friday, February 6, the GFA confirmed that they have strengthened the technical team of the Black Stars with five new additions, including French coach Alain Ravera, Spanish analyst Jose Daniel Martínez Alfonso, Carlos Lozano Romero, and Dwayne Peasah Paa Kwesi, alongside Björkegren.

Speaking to Akoma FM, Asante Twum said the decision reflects Björkegren’s proven expertise and the continued value he brings to Ghanaian football.

“With what Kim has achieved so far, he has justified his expertise, and we believe he has something extra to contribute to the team. For now, his full concentration is on the Black Queens, and after March, he will turn his attention to the Black Stars,” he explained.

Björkegren is currently in Ghana working with the Black Queens as they prepare for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

“Kim is in Ghana to continue with the Black Queens’ preparation for the Women’s AFCON. The mission is clear: to qualify for the World Cup. After the tournament in March, he will then join the Black Stars,” Asante Twum added.

The Black Stars are set to regroup in March, ahead of international friendlies against Austria and Germany as part of their World Cup build-up.

Ghana, drawn in Group L, will kick off their tournament campaign against Panama on June 17, face England on June 23, and conclude the group stage against Croatia on June 27.
