The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Birim Central, Solomon Kusi Brako, has confirmed that 88.8% of shops at the newly constructed Akyem Oda Ultra-Modern Market Complex have been allocated to their original owners.
Mr. Brako disclosed that the market, which was inaugurated by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo over a year ago, is now close to its official opening to the public.
He assured traders and residents that the allocation process was conducted transparently and fairly, with priority given to former shop owners.

Refuting Allegations
The MCE dismissed claims by the Member of Parliament for Akyem Oda, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, who alleged that some stalls had been allocated to market women from Asamankese and Akwatia.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, the MP made the assertions, which Mr. Brako described as “blatant lies.”
“The allocation process has been conducted with integrity, and all stalls have been allocated in line with the rightful entitlements of original owners,” the MCE stated.
Transparent Allocation Process
Mr. Brako explained that a special committee was constituted by the Birim Central Municipal Assembly to oversee the allocation of shops to ensure fairness and accountability.

Although the process faced some initial challenges, he noted that significant progress has been made, with 88.8% of the shops successfully allocated.
He further debunked claims that members of the allocation committee had resigned, stressing that the committee remains intact and fully operational.
Market Opening Imminent
With the official opening of the ultra-modern market drawing near, traders and residents are optimistic about its expected impact on commerce and economic activity in the municipality. The facility is anticipated to improve trading conditions and stimulate local economic growth.
The allocation committee has been commended for what officials describe as a transparent and orderly process, which is expected to enhance confidence among traders as the market prepares to open.
