A man who chose forgiveness over abandonment after a DNA test confirmed his girlfriend’s infidelity has now appealed for full custody of his three-year-old daughter, saying his sacrifice has only brought him continued pain and conflict.

The complainant, Kofi Acquah, appeared on Nhyira FM’s Obra programme, hosted by Ohemaa Benewa, to seek redress after deciding to keep his girlfriend and her child, even after scientific evidence proved he was not the biological father of the baby she gave birth to during their relationship.

According to Kofi, his decision to stay rather than walk away has now turned into a battle over peace, dignity, and the welfare of his child.

Speaking on the programme, Kofi explained that he and the accused, Maame Ama, met at Pankrono Adabraka and dated for five years. At the time, he was a taxi driver while Ama worked as a hairdresser. He said Ama accepted his marriage proposal just days after they met, after which he brought her to live with him.

“I loved her and wanted to marry her. That was my intention from the beginning,” Kofi told the panel.

Kofi revealed that while living together, he discovered that Ama was suffering from epilepsy, a condition she had not disclosed earlier. Despite the challenge, he said he stood by her, financed her medical care, and even postponed marriage rites at the request of her family until her health improved.

“I spent thousands of cedis on hospital visits and medication. For three years, I have been buying her epilepsy drugs myself,” he said.

According to Kofi, his fears escalated when Ama once suffered a seizure while carrying their baby, nearly harming the child. He noted, however, that since she began consistent medication, the seizures have not been visible for the past three years.

But their relationship took a troubling twist when Ama’s health improved.

Kofi alleged she secretly started an affair with another man and later became pregnant. A DNA test was subsequently conducted to determine the paternity of the child.

“The DNA cleared me. The child was not mine,” Kofi stated.

Responding during the accusation, Maame Ama admitted to the infidelity, confirming that she indeed had a child for another man while in the relationship. She maintained, however, that her past mistakes should not strip her of maternal rights, insisting that she still deserves involvement in her child’s life.

In what has become the most controversial aspect of the case, Kofi told the Obra show that he still chose to forgive Ama and accept her back, a decision he said was driven by love and compassion rather than obligation.

“I didn’t abandon her. I accepted her back after adjudication,” he said.

The couple later agreed that their first child together would stay with Kofi’s mother for stability. However, Kofi claims Ama has since returned with fresh disputes over the child, leaving him emotionally drained and seeking intervention.

“After everything, she keeps coming back with issues. I just want peace now,” he lamented.

The developments sparked intense reactions from the Obra panel, with members questioning the limits of forgiveness and the consequences of betrayal.

Lady Gold questioned whether Kofi’s goodwill may have encouraged repeated conflict, stressing that forgiveness must come with boundaries.
“You forgave her even after DNA proved the child wasn’t yours. That was big-hearted, but forgiveness without accountability can create more problems,” she remarked.

Evangelist de-Graft Addai focused on moral responsibility, warning that mercy should not excuse wrongdoing.
“Forgiveness is powerful, but betrayal has consequences. You cannot keep hurting someone who chose mercy,” he cautioned.

Meanwhile, Gifty Donkor, popularly known as Big Mama, redirected attention to the welfare of the child, urging that custody decisions must prioritize stability and peace.
“This child needs stability, not constant fights. Whoever can provide peace and safety should have custody,” she stressed.

In her closing remarks, host Ohemaa Benewa described the case as a painful lesson in love, sacrifice, trust, and emotional boundaries.

She noted that Kofi’s decision to stay after DNA evidence cleared him was a rare act of compassion, but warned that forgiveness should never become a weapon against one’s peace. She emphasized that custody decisions must be guided by the best interest of the child, not unresolved bitterness between adults.

Kofi Acquah is now appealing to Nhyira FM to assist him in securing full custody of his daughter, insisting that his actions are not driven by revenge, but by a desire to finally live in peace after years of sacrifice.
