A fire outbreak at the Tema Community 1 Market has destroyed six shops, while several others were saved thanks to a swift emergency response, officials have confirmed.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at the market located behind ABSA Bank.

Firefighters responded to a distress call received at about 9:09 a.m. and arrived at the scene within minutes, preventing the blaze from spreading further.

The fire affected six shops—four constructed with sandcrete blocks and two metal container shops—housing businesses dealing in lace materials, tailoring services, books, and tailoring accessories.

Fire personnel brought the blaze under control by 9:39 a.m. and fully extinguished it by 10:04 a.m., preventing more extensive losses in the busy market.
Although the fire caused significant damage to the affected shops, no injuries or fatalities were reported.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, with investigations ongoing to establish what triggered the incident.
