The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, on Tuesday paid a courtesy call on former President John Agyekum Kufuor at his Peduase residence following his decisive victory in the party’s presidential primaries.

Dr. Bawumia emerged winner of the January 31, 2026 contest after polling 110,640 votes, representing 56.48 per cent of the total valid ballots cast, to secure the party’s ticket for the 2028 general elections.

His closest contender, Kennedy Agyapong, placed second with 46,554 votes, accounting for 23.76 per cent, while Dr. Bryan Acheampong followed in third position with 36,303 votes, representing 18.53 per cent. The remaining aspirants garnered significantly fewer votes.

The visit was to express gratitude to the former President for his support, guidance and counsel throughout Dr. Bawumia’s bid for the party’s top position.

The two leaders discussed key matters, including party unity, leadership and the road ahead for the NPP as it prepares for the next general elections.

Dr. Bawumia’s engagement with President Kufuor highlights the campaign’s focus on unity and cohesion within the party following what many observers have described as a keenly contested internal election involving delegates from across the country.
