Senior Adviser to the Bawumia Campaign Team and Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, has affirmed that former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is committed to engaging all factions within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following his victory in the party’s presidential primaries.
Speaking on Citi FM on Monday, February 2, 2026, Mr. Awuku said the margin of Dr. Bawumia’s win positions him strongly to unite the party ahead of the 2028 general elections. He stressed that fostering unity will be central to the next phase of the NPP’s rebuilding process.
However, he cautioned that the party’s main challenge may not come from the defeated aspirants themselves, but from the conduct and commentary of their supporters, whose attitudes could either bolster or undermine efforts to build consensus.
Mr. Awuku explained that the Bawumia campaign had been confident of victory based on internal projections, though there were moments when a run-off appeared possible. Avoiding a second round, he noted, has given Dr. Bawumia the moral authority to lead the party and reconcile its members without controversy or division.
He concluded by reaffirming that Dr. Bawumia is determined to bring everyone on board and focus on the shared objective of returning the NPP to power in 2028.
