The Central East Regional Police Command has arrested 15 individuals for allegedly vandalizing part of the Gomoa Nyanyano Chief Palace, in connection with ongoing chieftaincy disputes following the death of Dr. Nana Wiabo several years ago.

The suspects, along with an estimated 100 others, reportedly stormed the palace, damaging the metal fence and gate in an attempt to seize the black stool and other valuables. The police have since taken control of the palace to prevent further attacks.

Speaking to Adom News, the Akobeahene of Gomoa Nyanyano, Nii Ato Quaye, confirmed the incident and commended the Central East Regional Police Command for their swift action.

“We are grateful for the prompt response by the police. Their intervention prevented further destruction and possible violence,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Zongo Chief of Gomoa Nyanyano, Sariki Abdulai Issaka Giwa, described the community as gripped by fear following the attack. He appealed to the Gomoa Assin Omanhene to intervene and resolve the chieftaincy dispute peacefully to avoid bloodshed.

“We urge the traditional authorities to address this matter urgently so that peace returns to our township and to prevent any loss of life,” he said.

The Central East Regional Police Command continues its investigations as the community awaits intervention from higher traditional authorities.
