Ayensuano Member of Parliament, Ida Adwoa Asiedu, has dismissed claims labeling former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as a liar, describing them as a normal part of political campaigns.

Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, Madam Asiedu said: “They are all contesting, and everyone will campaign for their people. Internal elections are what we are going into, so if you have a vision for the delegates, you preach your vision, but not to tarnish your contender.”

She added: “Those of us closer to Dr. Bawumia know he is not a liar. If someone believes otherwise, that is their own problem.”

Asked whether the “liar” tag bothers Dr. Bawumia, she responded.

“If someone lies about you, as a human being you will feel troubled. But life must go on. Personally, when I heard people calling him a liar, I was not surprised. Such tags are part of the game in politics. Aspirants often use campaigns to tarnish opponents so they can appear stronger in public, but we remain firm.”

The NPP presidential primary, set to take place on January 31, features a keenly contested field, including Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia; former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong; former Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum; former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Bryan Acheampong; and former party General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong.

The contest is expected to attract nationwide attention as delegates select a flagbearer to lead the party into the 2028 general elections. Security agencies have assured their readiness to ensure a peaceful and credible voting process.
