Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has described the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as disappointing but commended the team’s positive response.
For the first time in over two decades, Ghana missed out on the tournament in Morocco after finishing last in their qualifying group.
In an interview with Metro TV, Okraku admitted that missing AFCON was a tough pill to swallow.
“AFCON, for me, is a given. We have to be there,” he said. “If we are not there, that is the low side of our sport.”
Despite the setback, he praised the national team for bouncing back by securing qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to be co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
“In 2025, the Black Stars did not lose a single competitive game. That gladdens my heart,” Okraku said.
At the 2026 World Cup, Ghana will face Panama, England, and Croatia in Group L.
