More than 63,000 people have died in road traffic crashes in Ghana since 1991, the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has revealed.
According to the Authority, a total of 63,599 fatalities have been recorded over the past three decades, highlighting the persistent and devastating impact of road accidents on the country.
The data show that 2,949 people lost their lives in road crashes in 2025 alone, marking one of the highest annual death tolls in recent years.
The NRSA described the situation as a major national concern and called for renewed commitment from government agencies, transport operators, and road users to improve road safety.
It emphasised the need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws, increased funding for road safety interventions, and sustained public education to reduce the rising number of fatalities.
The Authority said the cumulative figures underscore the urgent need for coordinated national action to curb road crashes and save lives across Ghana.
