The Member of Parliament for Asunafo North in the Ahafo Region, Haruna Mohammed, has raised concerns over the poor state of facilities at the Goaso Fire Service Station, describing the situation as neglect that hampers the effective work of officers.
Speaking to Adom News after handing over a newly completed washroom facility to the station, the MP noted that the Goaso Fire Station faces some of the region’s most critical challenges, including the lack of basic amenities for staff.
According to him, it is “pathetic and disgraceful” that a fire service station in a regional capital could operate without a washroom. He stressed that the Fire Service deserves the same level of attention as institutions such as the Police, Immigration Service, Armed Forces, and Prisons Service.
Mr. Mohammed used the occasion to appeal to corporate bodies, organisations, and individuals to support government efforts by helping to provide essential facilities for the station, noting that the Fire Service plays a crucial role in public safety.
Meanwhile, the Goaso Fire Station Commander, DO2 Bernard Kanyi, commended the MP for his intervention and support. He revealed that the absence of a washroom had forced officers to rely on public latrines or nearby bushes, a situation he described as inappropriate.
DO2 Kanyi explained that the washroom project had been initiated by his predecessor and continued under his leadership but was previously abandoned due to lack of funds. He added that the station receives very little support, leaving many of its challenges unresolved.
