The Volta Regional Health Directorate has constituted a Committee of Enquiry and announced stricter vehicle monitoring and tracking measures following the arrest of one of its drivers for allegedly transporting suspected narcotic substances.
In a statement issued on January 25 and signed by the Regional Director of Health, Dr. Emmanuel Atsu Dodor, the Directorate said it had taken note of a viral report involving Mr. Godsway Kwaku Dogbey, a driver with the Directorate, who was arrested at the Volta Regional Police Headquarters in Ho on Friday, January 23.
The arrest occurred while Mr. Dogbey was driving an official vehicle with registration number GV 2460-14, which was reportedly loaded with items suspected to be narcotics.
According to the statement, management promptly dispatched a team to the Police Headquarters to verify the incident. Mr. Dogbey is currently in police custody and is assisting police with ongoing investigations.
While police investigations continue, the Directorate’s newly constituted Committee of Enquiry will independently examine the circumstances surrounding the incident. The Directorate also announced plans to strengthen systems for monitoring and tracking all official vehicles to prevent a recurrence.
The statement reaffirmed the Directorate’s commitment to integrity, accountability and professionalism, assuring the public that appropriate action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigations.
