The Assin Fosu Municipal Health Directorate has warned it may close down the Akoti Health Centre if threats against its staff persist in the Assin Wurakese community.
Municipal Health Director Benjamin Amoakoh told Adom News that the safety of health workers has become a serious concern following recent incidents at the facility.
According to him, an unidentified man allegedly stormed the health centre armed with a knife and a gun, threatening staff on duty.
The incident reportedly followed a police operation in the community, which saw more than 100 youths arrested in connection with an earlier attack on the Akoti Health Centre.
Mr. Amoakoh explained that the suspect accused health workers of providing video evidence to the police, which led to the arrests.
“The individual believed the staff recorded and shared videos with the police, so he returned to threaten their lives,” he said.
The Health Director warned that management would not hesitate to shut down the facility if the intimidation continues.
“Our priority is the safety of our workers. If these threats continue, the only option left may be to close the health centre to protect our staff,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Central North Regional Police Commander, DCOP Abraham Acquaye, confirmed that over 100 people from the Assin Wurakese community have been arrested to assist with investigations into the earlier attack.
He assured residents that security agencies are working to restore calm and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
