The Deputy Attorney General, Justice Srem Sai, has paid a working visit to the Marina Mall showroom of GoldBod Jewellery Limited, a subsidiary of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), to familiarise himself with the company’s operations and locally manufactured gold products.
Justice Srem Sai was received by the Managing Director of GoldBod Jewellery Limited, Getrude Emefa Donkor, Esq., who led him on a tour to see a range of jewellery products made from locally sourced gold.
Ms. Donkor expressed excitement at the visit, describing it as an opportunity to highlight the company’s role in Ghana’s value-addition agenda.
“GoldBod Jewellery Limited is a subsidiary of the Ghana Gold Board, and we are delighted to welcome you to one of our showrooms. We currently operate seven showrooms in Accra and Kumasi,” she said.
She explained that the company has been mandated to add value to Ghana’s gold resources, with the finished jewellery products reflecting that national objective.
Ms. Donkor also introduced Justice Srem Sai to the company’s gold tablets, noting that prices are determined by prevailing global gold prices.
She further highlighted the availability of vault services, which allows customers to either take possession of their gold tablets or store them securely at a minimal fee.
Justice Srem Sai commended the quality and craftsmanship of the products on display, particularly praising the innovation behind the gold tablets and the range of locally produced jewellery.
“I like your drive, especially with the gold tablets and the beautifully crafted jewellery you have here,” he said, applauding the management and staff for their commitment to adding value to Ghana’s gold.
Ms. Donkor described the government’s decision to restructure and retool GoldBod Jewellery Limited as timely and strategic, noting that Ghana had historically exported raw gold only to import finished jewellery at significant cost to the economy.
“This national mandate is critical because the jobs stay here, and we are able to generate revenue to support the state,” she added.
GoldBod Jewellery Limited, formerly PMMC Jewellery Limited, was established in 2016 with the mandate to produce and sell jewellery made in Ghana.
Although the company initially received limited attention, it has been revitalised following the restructuring of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company into the Ghana Gold Board.
Since the retooling, GoldBod Jewellery Limited has expanded its range of locally crafted jewellery, introducing beautifully crafted and modern designs as well as the gold tablets which are available in 1g, 5g, 10g and 1ounce 24-karat options.
