The Ghana Football Association’s Communications Director, Henry Asante Twum, has expressed confidence that the Black Stars can replicate their historic 2010 World Cup performance at the upcoming tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Ghana secured qualification for the 2026 World Cup and has been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia.

After missing the 2018 edition in Russia, the Black Stars returned to the global stage in Qatar in 2022 but were eliminated in the group stage. Despite that setback, Asante Twum remains optimistic about the team’s prospects this time.

Speaking in an interview, he said the objective is to advance beyond the group phase and make a deep run in the competition.

“Our target for the World Cup is to qualify from the group stage and be competitive. We want to fight; we have the quality, and we believe we can match our quarter-final appearance—and possibly go even further,” he told Akoma FM.

He added that the technical team has been strengthened following the Qatar campaign and will be further reinforced ahead of the tournament.

“Following the Qatar 2022 World Cup, we strengthened the technical team. The coach has requested some new additions, and the FA is currently working on them. However, the individuals involved are under contract with their respective employers, making it difficult to disclose names at this time.”

Details regarding the Black Stars’ training base and logistics are expected to be released in the first week of February. The provisional squad will be announced in April, with the final roster set for June 1.

Ghana will open their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, face England in Boston, and conclude the group stage against Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia.
