New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, has criticised the John Mahama-led administration, accusing it of mismanaging key sectors of the economy one year into its tenure.

Dr. Acheampong made the remarks while addressing party delegates on the third day of the second leg of his campaign tour in the Eastern Region. The engagement brought together delegates from the Atiwa Bloc, which comprises the Atiwa East, Atiwa West, and Fanteakwa constituencies.

He argued that the government has failed to demonstrate clear vision and decisive leadership, particularly in addressing transportation challenges in major cities, which he said continue to affect productivity and disrupt the daily lives of Ghanaians.

Speaking on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, Dr. Acheampong stated that an NPP government under his leadership would confront what he described as the National Democratic Congress’ “cosmetic solutions” and directly challenge the party for political power after he wins the NPP presidential primaries.

He further criticised economic indicators such as the stability of the cedi, saying they do not reflect real improvements on the ground, especially in the transport sector.

“The current situation with the dollar is artificial, and this is clearly reflected in the transport sector. Instead of supporting the private sector to drive the economy, the government is relying on cosmetic measures,” he said.
