The government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, has initiated discussions with the family of Guinea’s late President Sékou Touré to secure the former residence of Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah in Guinea, where he lived and served as Co-President in his final years.

The initiative, directed by President John Mahama, seeks to renovate and preserve Nkrumah’s Guinea home as a tribute to his legacy and to create a comprehensive experience for tourists tracing the statesman’s journey from Ghana to Guinea.

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced the development in a Facebook post following a visit to the residence.

The Ghanaian delegation, led by Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, met with three generations of the Sékou Touré family, including his eldest son, during a visit on Saturday following the investiture of President Mamady Doumbouya.

The team also toured Nkrumah’s currently abandoned residence.

Mr. Ablakwa explained that the government is negotiating the terms of transfer and engaging preservation experts for the project.
He added that the government is committed to full transparency and will provide updates at every stage of the initiative.
