Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) vice president George Afriyie has expressed confidence that Black Stars head coach Otto Addo will avoid costly mistakes at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana will be making their fifth appearance at football’s biggest stage and have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia. The tournament will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Despite securing qualification, Otto Addo’s position has come under scrutiny, with some critics calling for his dismissal and questioning his experience at the highest level.
Afriyie, however, believes the former Borussia Dortmund talent coach has matured and is better equipped to handle the pressures of the global showpiece.
“Otto Addo is now a mature coach, and I don’t think he will make mistakes at the World Cup,” he told Asempa FM.
The Black Stars will open their campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, before facing England in Boston and wrapping up their group-stage matches against Croatia in Philadelphia on June 27.
Addo, who guided Ghana to a group-stage exit at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, will be aiming to lead the Black Stars to greater success at the 2026 tournament.
