A domestic fire outbreak has destroyed fourteen rooms in a multiple-room residential building at Kukurizua, near Dastech, in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region.

The fire, which broke out on Tuesday morning, affected a large compound house and threatened nearby structures before personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) moved in to contain the blaze.

Firefighters from the Zebilla station were alerted shortly after 10:00 a.m. and arrived at the scene within minutes. Their swift intervention prevented the fire from spreading further, allowing four rooms within the building to be salvaged.

Sections of the building’s roofing, electronic appliances, and household furniture were destroyed in the fire. However, mattresses, clothing, and beds were rescued due to the timely response of the fire crew.

No casualties were reported.

The GNFS confirmed that the fire was brought under control before midday and fully extinguished after sustained firefighting efforts.

The cause of the fire is yet to be established, and investigations are ongoing.

Residents in the area have commended the fire service for averting what could have been a far more devastating incident, given the proximity of the structure to other residential buildings.
