Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito and his assistant, Prince Yaw Owusu, have been charged by the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Disciplinary Committee following their Premier League clash with Bibiani GoldStars.
In a statement issued on Monday, the GFA cited alleged breaches of Article 12(1)(i) of its Disciplinary Code, which relates to misconduct towards match officials.
The charges follow incidents during the weekend’s goalless draw against the defending champions, a result that extended Kotoko’s recent struggles in the league.
According to the GFA, both coaches are accused of exhibiting unsporting behaviour towards the match officials after a contentious decision. Kotoko were left aggrieved when a goal by Samba O’Neil was disallowed, with officials ruling that a foul had been committed in the build-up inside the opposition penalty area.
Zito and Owusu have been given until Wednesday, January 21, to formally respond to the charges.
The draw saw the Porcupine Warriors slip to fourth place on the Ghana Premier League table, leaving them eight points behind league leaders Medeama.
