The Adaklu Waya District Assembly in the Volta Region has convened a District LEAP Implementation Committee (DLIC) meeting to enhance the delivery of the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) Programme in the district.

The meeting brought together key stakeholders and committee members, who were briefed on the LEAP Programme, the ongoing reassessment exercise, the current state of implementation in Adaklu, and strategies to improve efficiency and impact.

Speaking to Adom News, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Adaklu, who also serves as Dean of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the Volta Region, said the meeting aimed to review progress and strengthen coordination among stakeholders.

“The LEAP Programme remains a vital social intervention for vulnerable households in the district. Regular assessments are necessary to address emerging challenges and ensure effective delivery,” he said.

The DCE praised President John Dramani Mahama for expanding LEAP beneficiaries nationwide from 350,000 to 450,000 households, calling it a bold step toward reducing poverty. He added that Adaklu, one of the poorest districts in Ghana, currently ranks third in poverty levels in the Volta Region, underscoring the importance of targeted social protection programmes.

Madam Susan Termly Akortia, Adaklu District Director of Social Welfare, told Adom News that residents benefit from cash transfers and complementary services under LEAP, particularly the elderly, persons with severe disabilities, and households with orphans and vulnerable children. Beneficiaries are also linked to essential services such as health insurance and education, improving their overall well-being and resilience.

She assured the public of continued collaboration with community leaders and stakeholders to ensure transparency, accountability, and effective programme delivery.

The meeting concluded with a call on committee members to intensify monitoring and community engagement to ensure the LEAP Programme achieves its intended objectives in the Adaklu District.
