The Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Abena Osei Asare, has urged the management of Tema Shipyard to actively pursue justice in the ongoing court case involving the company.
Speaking to the media after Tuesday’s PAC hearing, Osei Asare said the provision of surety in the case indicates that there is still hope for justice to prevail. She warned against complacency, stressing that public officials should not shy away from matters merely because they originated under previous administrations.
“The focus should always be on national interest, not partisan or personal considerations,” she said.
Osei Asare emphasized that a successfully revitalized Tema Shipyard would significantly boost job creation and contribute positively to Ghana’s economy. She urged the company’s management to take all necessary steps to ensure the case reaches its logical conclusion and assured them of PAC’s support whenever required.
Meanwhile, the Transport Minister, who also appeared before the committee, raised concerns over the breakdown of a transport vessel on the Volta Lake belonging to the Volta Transport Company Limited. He explained that the vessel’s deterioration and the unavailability of spare parts have delayed repairs, affecting the movement of passengers and goods across the lake.
