Former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, has criticised the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), describing Deputy General Secretary Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, as “a lawyer with a small mind.”

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng rejected claims that his report on illegal mining (galamsey) contributed to the NPP’s electoral defeat. He said the report merely presented the truth and argued that the party’s failure stemmed from its inability to properly address critical internal and national issues raised ahead of the elections.

According to him, the NPP headquarters has effectively become an extension of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign office, even though the party has not thoroughly examined the reasons behind its loss in the 2024 elections.

He warned that pushing Dr. Bawumia again without addressing these internal issues is not in the best interest of the party.

“Ghanaians had genuine reasons for voting against the NPP. The party must respect the electorate by fixing its internal problems before seeking power again,” he stated.

Prof. Frimpong-Boateng maintained that he remains a member of what he described as the “true NPP,” insisting that those promoting what he called a “fake party” should leave.

Meanwhile, the New Patriotic Party has announced that it has invoked relevant provisions of its constitution to begin processes to expel Prof. Frimpong-Boateng. This follows comments he made on Accra-based Channel One TV on January 12, 2026, where he described the NPP as a “fake party” and said he no longer considers himself a member.
