Black Galaxies coach Kassim Mingle has justified his decision to leave Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare out of the squad for this month’s friendly against South Africa.
Mingle has named a 20-man squad for the trip, choosing to look elsewhere in the goalkeeping department.
Speaking to Sporty FM, he explained that Asare’s elevation to the senior national team means further assessment at the Galaxies level is no longer necessary. According to him, the former Great Olympics goalkeeper has already proven himself with the Black Stars.
“There’s no reason to keep calling up Benjamin Asare to the Black Galaxies when he already has a spot in the Black Stars and has justified himself at that level. It doesn’t make sense to invite him to the Galaxies again just to ‘justify’ himself,” Mingle said.
Asare has missed Hearts of Oak’s last four matches due to injury, but his reputation remains strong after an impressive spell with the Black Stars, where he played a key role in Ghana’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
