A member of the planning committee for Daddy Lumba’s funeral, Collins Owusu Amankwah, has expressed deep concern over the public controversies surrounding the late music icon’s final rites.
According to him, the debates reflect a broader need for improved critical thinking in the country.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, he lamented the level of misinformation, insults, and heated arguments dominating social conversations ahead of the funeral.
“This funeral has made me realize why Ghana is ranked among countries with low IQ levels. Daddy Lumba’s situation has opened my eyes to this,” he remarked.
He further criticised what he described as unnecessary debates, noting that issues such as widowhood rites are strictly the responsibility of the late musician’s family, a position also affirmed by the court.
“The level of thinking and insults being thrown around is alarming. Daddy Lumba is a musical legend in Ghana, and everyone wants to honor his memory, not focus on the controversies surrounding it,” he added.
Mr. Amankwah praised the highlife legend as a national treasure whose contributions to Ghanaian music remain unmatched.
“The issue of widowhood rites is a matter for the deceased’s family to handle, which the court ruled as well. Daddy Lumba deserves to rest in peace. He lived an honourable life and worked hard in the music industry; no one could ever replace him. He was a national treasure. His songs resonated with many people, and the honourable life he lived should be preserved even in death,” he said.
Daddy Lumba’s funeral is scheduled to take place on Saturday in Kumasi.
