Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, Ranking Member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, has sparked national debate by holding the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) responsible for the helicopter crash that claimed the life of Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and other officers.
Speaking on Adom TV’s Badwam on Monday, the Assin South MP argued that the tragedy could have been avoided if the NDC had not opposed the procurement of a new presidential jet and additional helicopters for the Ghana Armed Forces during the Akufo-Addo administration.
Rev. Ntim Fordjour contended that the NDC’s position in Parliament at the time stalled critical investments that would have strengthened the military’s aviation capabilities.
“Ghanaians should blame the NDC for this tragedy,” he asserted.
“If they had not resisted the government’s plans to purchase a presidential jet and new helicopters, this sad incident could have been prevented.”
He further highlighted the current challenges facing the Ghana Armed Forces, noting a shortage of functional aircraft, particularly helicopters needed for emergency, medical, and operational duties.
“The Army has no well-functioning helicopter. Their equipment situation is worrying,” he said.
“This is what happens when politics is placed above national security.”
