Kwame Owusu, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Chairman for Adansi Asokwa, has accused party leaders of not being honest with members ahead of the 2024 general election, asserting that they knew the NPP could not have broken the eight-year cycle.
Speaking to Adom News during Second Lady Samira Bawumia’s campaign visit to Adansi Asokwa and Fomena, Owusu noted that no political party in Ghana’s history has retained power beyond eight years, making the 2024 defeat inevitable.
“The party had no chance of retaining power after eight years in office. No party has ever broken the ‘eight-year’ cycle in Ghana, so Dr Mahamudu Bawumia was merely a victim of circumstances,” he said. Owusu urged that Dr Bawumia should be given another opportunity to run in 2028.
Fomena Constituency Chairman, Akwasi Adom, also voiced strong support for Dr Bawumia, describing him as the best candidate for the upcoming presidential primaries.
He highlighted Dr Bawumia’s performance as Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana under former President Kufuor as evidence of his competence and justification for Nana Addo’s decision to select him as running mate.
