The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, has issued a stern warning to individuals who use social media and digital platforms to “create panic and fear,” stressing that Ghana’s security agencies now possess advanced technology capable of tracking and arresting offenders.
He delivered the caution in Ho on Friday, December 5, 2025, during the commissioning of the new Volta Regional Command of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), an event attended by President John Dramani Mahama.
The inauguration of the Volta Regional Command marks a major advancement in government efforts to strengthen national security, particularly through the regional expansion of intelligence support. The new office is fitted with modern surveillance systems, analytical tools, and real-time data equipment, making it a crucial hub for intelligence gathering and fast-response operations in the region.
Muntaka highlighted that the NSB’s growing regional footprint—following the opening of the Eastern Regional Office in Koforidua in September—is significantly closing intelligence gaps across the country. He announced that the Ho facility will soon be followed by new offices in Sunyani and Techiman to serve the Bono and Bono East regions.
According to him, four additional regional commands are expected to become operational by the end of the year, bringing intelligence services closer to communities and improving coordination among security agencies.
The minister assured the public that the NSB’s advanced systems are not designed to invade privacy but will be used decisively against those who exploit digital platforms to destabilise the nation.
“This facility is not to spy on you. It is to make sure every citizen goes about his or her duty without watching his or her back,” he stated.
He, however, delivered a firm message to offenders:
“To our citizens who use technology online and other means to create panic and fear, the time for you to stop is here. And I can assure you, we will come after you. You will have to stop or we will come after you. Now we have what it takes to track you, to observe what you are doing, to trace you wherever you are hiding.”
Muntaka stressed the need for a unified front in confronting security threats, urging the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Immigration Service, and the Ghana Prisons Service to work closely with the NSB to maximise the impact of the enhanced intelligence infrastructure.
He also pointed to ongoing investments in the security sector, citing upgrades to the NSB office in Labone and improvements in cyber intelligence operations, which he said have already boosted investigations into online offences and contributed to public safety.
The minister commended the Acting Director-General and staff of the NSB for their dedication and encouraged residents of the Volta Region to fully support the new command, assuring them that the facility is well prepared to protect the public, secure the country’s borders, and strengthen national stability.
