Flagbearer hopeful for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Bryan Acheampong, has lauded Ghanaian farmers for their vital contribution to national development as the country marks Farmers’ Day.

In a message to commemorate the occasion, Dr. Acheampong described farmers as the backbone of Ghana’s food security and economy, praising their “dedication, resilience, and commitment to the land.”

Reflecting on his tenure in the agricultural sector, he highlighted efforts to improve access to inputs, enhance extension services, and strengthen market linkages, all of which contributed to increased productivity.

He cited key interventions, including the cancellation of the cocoa syndication arrangement, timely fertiliser distribution, and expanded irrigation projects, which he said contributed to the “bumper harvests Ghana is experiencing today,” demonstrating the impact of equipping farmers with the right tools and policies.

Dr. Acheampong also noted gains in the cocoa sector, pointing to what he described as a historic rise in the producer price—from about GHS800 per bag to GHS3,000 per bag during his leadership—reflecting a commitment to ensuring fair value for farmers.

While celebrating progress, he acknowledged ongoing challenges such as access to finance, post-harvest losses, inadequate technology, and climate-related threats.

He outlined plans for a more resilient and profitable agricultural sector, proposing increased mechanisation, adoption of digital tools, stronger value chains, expanded irrigation, climate-smart solutions, and innovative financing models for farmers.

Dr. Acheampong reaffirmed his support for the farming community, pledging to continue advocating for improved conditions both in Parliament and beyond.

“Ayekoo to all our farmers. Ghana is grateful,” he said.
