District Chief Executive for Adansi Asokwa, Albert Dakurah, has reaffirmed the district’s commitment to reclaim abandoned galamsey sites for agricultural use, with plans to expand coconut and oil palm cultivation.
Speaking at the 41st National Farmers’ Day celebration at Akwansrem in the Ashanti Region, the DCE revealed that the assembly has already reclaimed land and planted over 1,000 coconut seedlings.
He added that the next phase of the project will see an additional 30,000 coconut and oil palm seedlings cultivated on newly reclaimed sites.
According to Mr Dakurah, a request has been submitted to the Minerals Commission for more seedlings, which will be planted as soon as they are delivered.
He encouraged residents of Adansi and surrounding communities to embrace farming, stressing that it is a reliable source of income and family sustenance.
Meanwhile, Godfred Asare, who was named Adansi Asokwa District Best Farmer, shared his story of perseverance. Despite having no formal education, he devoted himself fully to farming, a dedication that has earned him district-wide recognition.
He expressed hope that the award will motivate him to achieve even greater success.
