Berekum West MP, Dickson Kyere-Duah, has raised alarm over the rising incidence of armed robbery along the Jinijini–Drobo–Sampa road, describing the 80-kilometre stretch as a “death trap.”
According to the MP, robbers are taking advantage of the poor road network to target traders, drivers, and residents who travel the route daily.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, he called for urgent national attention, warning that the insecurity poses both security and economic threats.
He highlighted that traders commuting long distances to buy foodstuffs and other goods live in constant fear, while essential workers such as teachers and health professionals are increasingly declining postings to communities along the route due to safety concerns.
Mr. Kyere-Duah also noted that some drivers are exploiting passengers by charging exorbitant fares amid the insecurity, further burdening ordinary citizens.
He urged the government and relevant security agencies to act swiftly to restore safety and protect lives along the Jinijini–Drobo–Sampa road.
