Two years after the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad, the final burial of the 27-year-old artist remains on hold due to ongoing legal disputes over a DNA test, his father has revealed.
Mohbad passed away on September 12, 2023, and was initially buried in line with traditional customs. However, the body was exhumed just nine days later to comply with police requirements and autopsy procedures and has remained unburied since.
Autopsy and toxicology results were inconclusive, with authorities citing decomposition as a factor.
The delay has been further complicated by questions surrounding the paternity of Mohbad’s son, prompting a fresh court case.
Speaking publicly, Mohbad’s father said the DNA test is the main hurdle preventing the burial from taking place.
“Today is the DNA court case, and we are here now. This is exactly 9 o’clock, and my lawyer is here. I’m telling the whole world that this is the most important thing, and this is exactly what is delaying the burial. After the DNA is done, we can now move on to the burial,” he stated.
Mohbad’s wife, Wunmi, has submitted their son for the test and remains confident it will result in a positive match.
