Communications Director of Asante Kotoko, Sarfo Duku, has disclosed that the club is facing a potential contract challenge as several key players near the end of their current deals.
According to him, players including Joseph Ablorh, goalkeeper Mohammed Camara, Samba Oneil, and Peter Amidou Acquah are approaching the end of their contracts, but the team is making efforts to retain them through ongoing positive negotiations.
Sarfo Duku revealed that while Kotoko is eager to keep these important team members, the players are demanding significant terms.
He added that the management is open to players leaving if it is in their best interest, but they are prioritising contract renewals first.
“On our part as management, we’re trying our best to retain at least the ones we want to work with. Talks are ongoing, and the signs are positive. Even though the players may consider opportunities elsewhere, five of our key players are expected to make substantial demands because of their progress,” he told Luv FM.
“We also believe that Kotoko has invested in them, so even if they have to leave, the first step is to offer contract renewals. When a deal comes, we wouldn’t stand in their way,” he added.
Sarfo Duku explained that the club remains committed to securing the best talent to strengthen the team but must also operate within its financial realities.
“We are putting forward proposals for the renewal of their contracts, but this will not prevent them from leaving if it is in their best interest and in the interest of Kotoko,” he said.
