Former Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Prof. Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa, has criticised the Service for issuing what he describes as an unnecessary and politically-tinged response to former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei-Adutwum over the 2025 WASSCE results.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Prof. Opoku-Amankwa argued that the statement should not have come from the GES leadership.
According to him, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) at the Education Ministry should have been the one to address any political issues raised.
“I don’t think the statement was needed, especially regarding Adutwum,” he said.
“GES is an agency under a ministry. Adutwum is a politician, so the PRO could have handled it. For GES to say the results are the ‘true reflection’ of students’ performance, what if they perform better next year? It was a needless political statement.”
His comments come after the GES publicly rejected Dr. Adutwum’s claims that management lapses contributed to the performance of candidates in the 2025 WASSCE.
In a December 1 statement signed by GES Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, the Service described the former minister’s assertions as “misleading,” insisting that the results accurately reflect students’ academic performance.
