The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is set to present the results of the long-running mediation between the Kusaasi and Mamprusi factions to President John Mahama in the coming days, following the conclusion of a major dialogue session at the Manhyia Palace on Monday.
The meeting ended on a positive note, with members of both factions expressing relief and optimism, leading to scenes of jubilation at the palace. Observers describe the discussions as a pivotal moment in the national effort to resolve the Bawku disturbances.
However, brief skirmishes erupted outside the palace when a jubilant Mamprusi member reportedly struck a vehicle belonging to the opposing faction. Security personnel intervened swiftly to restore calm.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who was tasked by President Mahama to lead the mediation process, has a history of guiding high-level peace negotiations.
The government is expected to provide further direction once the Asantehene’s report is reviewed.
