Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren has acknowledged the challenge his team faces ahead of their friendly against England’s Lionesses on Tuesday.
The European champions will host Ghana at St. Mary’s, with kick-off set for 19:00 GMT.
Speaking to the Ghana FA website, Björkegren admitted the match will be demanding but emphasized that his squad possesses the quality to compete.
“We’re jumping into deep water to see if we can swim against the best team in the world. It’s going to be really tough, and we need to understand that. But we also know we have some qualities,” he said.
“We may not be top five in the world yet, but we need to challenge ourselves. He described the match as a vital measurement of the team’s progress.
Björkegren stressed the game offers a key benchmark for the team’s development.
“Games like this are potentially the most difficult in the world right now. Away against England, they will challenge us for sure.
“We’re going to see how good we are, but also what we need to do better to climb the FIFA rankings and remain one of the top teams in Africa,” he added.
As part of their build-up, the Black Queens recently secured a win over Aston Villa’s women’s team. The friendly against England is part of their preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
