Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren has expressed confidence in his team’s ability to take on England’s Lionesses in an international friendly.

Ghana will face the reigning European champions at St. Mary’s Stadium on Tuesday, December 3, with kick-off scheduled for 19:00 GMT.

In an interview with the Ghana FA website ahead of the match, Björkegren acknowledged the challenge of facing one of the world’s top teams but stressed that his squad has the qualities to compete.

“We’re jumping into deep water to see if we can swim against the best team in the world. It’s going to be really tough, and we need to understand that. But we also know we have some qualities,” he said.

“We may not be top five in the world yet, but we need to challenge ourselves. Games like this are potentially the most difficult right now. Away against England, they will challenge us for sure,” Björkegren added.

He described the encounter as a key test for assessing the team’s progress and identifying areas for improvement to climb the FIFA rankings and maintain their position as one of Africa’s top teams.

The Black Queens, who have arrived in Southampton, are set to hold their final training session ahead of the clash. As part of their preparations, they recently secured a victory against Aston Villa’s Women’s team.

This friendly forms part of Ghana’s buildup to the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
