The Chief of Adansi Dompoase, Okofo Kwabena Bonsu II, was shot on Saturday at the funeral of the mother of Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive Faustilove Appiah Kannin, held at the AGA School Park at Kofekrom in the Obuasi Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The shooting was allegedly carried out by an Asafohene from Asebu in the Central Region, identified as 35-year-old Nana Yaw Darkwah.
Okofo Kwabena Bonsu II was rushed to the Obuasi Government Hospital for treatment.
Authorities in Obuasi had already banned the firing of guns at durbars and public ceremonial grounds, making the act a violation of local directives.
The suspect has been arrested and is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
