Basake Holy Stars head coach Johnson Smith believes Wednesday’s victory over Asante Kotoko marks the beginning of a turnaround for the struggling side.

Smith, who recently replaced Evans Adotey, guided the club to a spirited 2-1 win at the AAK II Park, handing Kotoko their first defeat of the season.

Richmond Somiah broke the deadlock four minutes after the break with a close-range finish, but Kotoko responded almost immediately through Kwame Opoku, who levelled in the 53rd minute.

The decisive moment came deep into stoppage time when Prince Tweneboah curled home a stunning effort, leaving goalkeeper Mohammed Camara with no chance.

“This is just the beginning, so I don’t have to talk much,” Johnson said. “This is my first match, so I don’t want to blab too much, but I’m happy that we’ve won today, and we will continue to build,” he added.

Despite the victory, Basake Holy Stars remain in the relegation zone. They will aim to build on this momentum when they host Nations FC in their Matchday 12 fixture this weekend.
